My Cherry

Down by the water, the lone cherry tree sways in the breeze,

her blossoms a delicate artistry,

rustling to the tune they find so heavenly.

She lets me lay under her cover sometimes

as the sun peaks in the sky,

its rays seeping through the cracks

of the sweet cherries,

leaving a dancing image upon my cheeks. And

together we sing the sweet song of Spring.

I rest my head in her lap, but she does not budge,

her toes curled tightly into the depths of the earth,

resistant to the movement of the seas, and to

the changing of the seasons.

She lets me hold her hand sometimes

and I whisper my secrets into her ear

because I know she will not tell. But she does not

whisper back, what is it that you hide, my Cherry?

Dusk arrives and the sky begins to bruise,

so I kiss my Cherry good-night until tomorrow,

then she is alone. Alone with the dark shadows that

permeate through her bark, now seeping through her pores

and clouding her radiance. A single blossom

drops to the ground, wiped away by the breeze

that sighs

Where did you go?

Fly.

A squirming body to puncture the surface,

slither, slither, to slime.

Nibbling amongst the tips of greenery,

the trail it follows, the trail it leaves behind.

A bud blossoms and the body entwines

itself

in a nest of silk and linen

but where shall the body go

when it awakens again,

mummified?

Thrusting into the air,

she balances on the wind and

dances to the rhythm of the current,

Propelling herself

higher

higher.

A mosaic of color gently floating,

pushing against the breeze

further

further

to wherever she may

land herself next.

Is This Heaven?

My nose pushed against the cold, thick glass,

I peer over the edge into an

abyss of plush cotton

illuminated slightly by the peeking rays of the sun.

From down below, the sky appears an

endless array of space and time,

but from the window in the sky, soaring above

the everchanging landscapes of mountainous

terrain and glistening bodies of water,

nothing could be higher.
