Grade 12 Creative Writing Portfolio

Dear Reader...
Of all the pieces that I have ever written thus far, whether for this portfolio or for my own benefit, an introduction to myself is by-far the most difficult (and most frightening.) Every day, each and every one of us is faced with the question, “Who am I?” And every day, we struggle to find the answer. What am I supposed to reply when a stranger puts forth the dreaded, “So, tell me about yourself?” Hi, my name is Rachel Domond, and that’s about all I know.
However, I am only 18 years old, and shouldn't be anywhere close to having the answer. Self-discovery is a process of experimentation, because, how else will I find my niche in the world? I strive to learn more about myself in nearly everything that I do, and for that reason, I am very open to change and the endless amount of possibilities. I'm not sure that I will ever have a solid answer to understand exactly who I am, where I'm going, or even where I came from, but I'm completely okay with that.
I’ve never been much of a fan of writing, because frankly, I didn’t believe that I was “good” at it. But, over the course of senior year, I’ve come to realize that writing is whatever the writer wants it to be, further explaining why I have come to love it (and yes, even poetry). Writing has become an outlet for self-expression, in which I can reflect on my thoughts and feelings in the words that I write. It gives me great satisfaction to completely vomit my thoughts onto the paper and (eventually) formulate them into something I am content with. I know that there is much work to be done in correcting and perfecting my technique, but the process is definitely one worth noting in my learning about myself.
I like to think that my voice resides even in the more formal essays I write, and can be heard by the reader. And I hope that my writing can touch you in some way, any way, if possible. Enjoy.
